Courses from May 2013

New exclusive Music & Media courses for 16-18 year olds (Enrolling Now)

What activities are covered during the course?

  • Complete a NCFE level 1 qualification
  • Develop music production skills using the latest software
  • Compile DJ mixes and learn how to operate Pioneer DJ equipment
  • Produce a radio show, using Sine FM's digital editing facilities
Learners may apply for a bursary for the duration of the course and will receive £100 if they progress onto our level 2 programme. Attendance is 2 days per week and free to 16, 17 and 18 year olds, residing in the Doncaster Borough, not currently involved in Education, Employment or full time Training.

Music Technology Taster Workshops

 What happens on a taster course?
  •  Induction and tour of Higher Rhythm.
  •  An introduction to relevant PC and Mac based software applications.

How much is a taster course?

Tasters are free to individuals who are over 19 and have a DN postcode.

NCFE Level 1 Music Technology Course

(Taking Applications now for 19+ Adults)  

This is an 8 week course where learners are taught how to use Cubase music production software. Each candidate will produce their own piece of music using techniques such as; MIDI programming, sampling, recording and mixing.Contact us to book your place!

What is covered on the course?

  • Develop MIDI composition, using instrument tracks and editors.
  • Drum programming techniques.
  • Using synthesisers in music production.
  • Import and edit audio sources for use in sequencing project.
  • Sample editing and chopping beats.
  • Use effects to enhance the sounds.
  • Arrange and mix MIDI and Audio parts to create a piece of music.

How much is the 8 week course?

The 8 sesssions cost £40 (employed) £25 (Unemployed/Students)

NCFE Level 2 Music Technology Course

This is an 8 week course where learners are taught how to use Pro Tools software. Each candidate will learn recording and mixing techniques such as; Drum recording, Microphone use, editing and effects. Contact us to book your place!

  • Microphone Placement.
  • Recording drums.
  • Connecting studio equipment.
  • Recording with Pro Tools software.
  • Using outboard effects and plug ins.
  • Mixing in and out of the PC.
  • Digital Editing.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma Music Technology
(Free for 16-18 year olds!)

This course offers an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the area of Sound Recording & Music Technology, also looking at areas such as music business, recording studios, producing music and microphone techniques, with an opportunity to complete a real radio production project. Your course will involve working individually and as part of a team using professional mixing consoles to produce multi-track sound recordings. Apple computers running software such as Pro Tools and Cubase are also available to complete your work.

This qualification is suitable for - Anyone interested in music aged 16-18
Location – Higher Rhythm / Sine FM (Doncaster Town Centre)
Duration of course – 24 Weeks (2 days per week)
Cost of course – FREE to 16-18 year olds

The course is equivalent to 4 GCSE's at A to C and provides a good basis to go on to further qualifications.

All BTEC Level 2 Diploma Music students take these subjects:

  •  Working in the Music Industry
  •  Professional Development in the Music Industry
  •  Planning and Creating a Music Product

In addition to these students will study at least four more units to make up the full diploma. These will include topics such as:

  • Exploring Computer Systems Used By Musicians
  • Technology and Performance
  • Producing a Music Recording
  • Investigating an Area of Music
