In January 2018, we launched ‘Music Matters’, a free to access, music project for young people from Doncaster. We are calling young bands and music artists, or any young person interested in music to get involved, and we have priority places for young people currently not in education, employment or training. There’s a wide choice of activities to get involved in including:
Learning how to produce your own music
Recording your music in a professional recording studio
Engineering in studio sessions for other artists
Performing live radio sessions and producing radio features
Organising or performing at events…
You will also gain real industry experience and can work towards achieving a qualification if you want to.
As part of the project we developed a brand new initiative Stage Invasion delivered in a partnership between ourselves and Doncaster Music Education Hub, supporting young people into the live music industry. A whopping 425 people turned up to the Dome in Doncaster to see 10 young bands playing live at the first event on the evening of 4th July, 2019. Huge thanks is due to Arts Council England BBC Children in Need Doncaster Leisure and Doncaster College and University Centre for supporting.
This year, in light of the current COVID-19 restrictions placed on live music events, we are offering young songwriters (14-19) the opportunity to submit demo versions of their songs that they have composed and recorded at home. Our expert team will then work remotely with young songwriters to develop their music and share it across our radio and digital media platforms. If you would like some support with your song before submitting please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject: Stage Invasion Songwriting and we’ll arrange a short tutorial with one of our team to help you out. Remember, we’re interested in hearing your own original song, not a cover version!
Please visit https://www.higherrhythm.co.uk/stage-invasion/ and submit your song today!
