Over the years, people have told us some incredible stories about encounters they’ve had with music artists in Doncaster.
Maybe they’d had a cup of tea with the Beatles… Bumped into Joey Ramone near town fields… Or picked up Kylie in a taxi! These are just some of the stories we’ve heard over the years. With this in mind we captured and preserved some of these stories through our 2022 project Doncaster Sound Memories.
These oral histories have been shared via broadcasts on Sine FM, and online as a celebration of local musical folklore. We subsequently commissioned an extremely popular large-scale public exhibition of these stories in Doncaster city centre.
The Doncaster Sound Memories On Tour will expand on this innovation and use vacant space throughout the city centre to create an interactive exhibition that will create an inspirational impression of Doncaster, linking famous music artists with local venues.
Doncaster Sound Memories ran throughout 2022 funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This project captured, preserved and celebrated music memories of local people, based on oral historical accounts of musical events and encounters.
