For those of you who might not know, SSL are one of the world’s leading studio console manufacturers. Their products are an industry standard, used for decades in top-tier studios across the planet, and by artists from Ozzy to Oasis, and Bruce Springsteen to Dr Dre.
SSL have been really good to Higher Rhythm, supporting our courses and programmes with freebies and big discounts on our consoles. When Mike Banks, Evangeliser in Chief at SSL, invited us down for a natter and a curry, Doya and Yve were happy to oblige.
For Yve it was a trip down memory lane; a reminder of the many platinum-selling artists who recorded on the the SSL console in Air studios in Montserrat while she was the manager there. (The installation of the console in Air, is itself a story worthy of a movie, involving transporting the £1million mixer on the back of a farmer’s truck and negotiations with the US Air Force…)
Doya is still giddy from the visit, where they got to spend time in the studio with legendary recording engineer Stuart Bruce, demonstrating mixing multi-tracks from one of the all-time mega-hits he engineered, Owner of a Lonely Heart.
Stuart has now also kindly offered to come to Higher Rhythm and deliver a masterclass for our students in the near future. What a gent.
